Staying hydrated should be focused on regularly, not just when you think you'll be working out. Being hydrated helps you sustain longer, assist with burning fat and of course keeping your heart and endocrine system healthy during high intensity training. I have tried several types of drinks all claiming to be scientifically proven to have results. At times, during events, we are not given a choice at the Aid Stations as to what is provided and because we are so thirsty we drink what is typically provided. However, lately at events I a choosing to bring along my own beverage of choice, allowing me only to consume water at the Aid Stations.
So what is my choice.....NUUN. I solely operate off NUUN electrolyte enhanced drink tabs during training, events and other activities. NUUN has no added sugar and is colored with vegetable juice; therefor I am not ingesting a bunch of garbage and expecting my body to respond positively. I love the flavor and it has proven to keep me hydrated for longer endurance activities. NUUN does not give me gastric issues, cause cramping, indigestion or make me bloated feeling the way others have done in the past to me. I remember clearly at one event they were handing out GU Endurance Drink and I cramped so badly after drinking that I switched to water and was only able to consume water the rest of the event throwing my electrolytes off. After researching the product I am sure the added sugar and fructose on top of everything else just was not what my body could handle at the time.
NUUN has many flavors, which you can combine, and is easy to find. So, what is my post recovery choice...NUUN ALL DAY? There is a distinct difference between the two. NUUN ALL DAY is not electrolyte enhanced, rather its vitamin enhanced. I love knowing that if I am drinking something I am also supporting my bodies need for vitamin replacement. Full of all the essentials. Zero sugar added. On days when I am not working out I drink and ALL DAY for Vitamin support and on days I am in recovery I consume it to help stay hydrated, support my immune system and prepare me for my next endurance event. Most importantly, I have no digestion problems, love the variety, and (not being much of a water fan) now feel confident I am maintaining my hydration properly.
One perk to NUUN is they are easy to carry in a hydration pack. Lid pops off, no mess and 1 tab goes right into the bottle dissolving quickly. Occasionally I make a slushy, add fruit to the drink, or try different combinations of flavors. Neither of these has added caffeine (although they do make one that does), have natural flavors and contain less than 10 calories (most hover around 7-8 calories). I couldn't ask for a better product.
So to my clients.... I encourage you to try NUUN ALL DAY as a recovery or support beverage as opposed to juice, gatorade, bottle sport drinks, soda, etc. During your workout give NUUN electrolyte enhanced tabs a shot. Never experiement with a new product during an important event, test it first, be sure your body responds well.
